I think the problem is that in todays world everyone is informed of these places by a constant barrage of media.

The Welsh mountain roads were known to but a few in the 60s and 70s, remember the original +8 road test that was done there. Now a few words in a magazine article or two, everybody searches it for it , and soon it becomes "overcrowded" with wannabes who wish to ape their "heroes" but don't quite measure up on the skill stakes.

I am not advocating that we should go backwards to a previous era, but this is one of the unintended consequences of such a media savvy world.
