I've always wondered why there isn't a small flap of hood material at the front corner of the hood, overlapping the point at which water would get access to that "top of windscreen pillar" joint. Like a shingle. Then water would be deflected down and past, rather than being forced into, that un-sealed joint.
A bit like the flap over the top of the sidescreen window, but over the front edge at each front corner.
