So when we went to Blenheim Palace All Morgans Day my S1 developed what can only be described as loss of power when accelerating hard over 4000rpm and when we arrived at Blenheim and sat in a queue for 20 minutes in the heat it cut out 3 times. When we went home it ran fine but I played at accelerating in lower gears through the 3500- 5500 rpm range gradual acceleration was fine but hard foot to the floor and it would hesitate and the MIL light was on. For future reference the fault is more evident when the engine is colder, presumably as air leaks are less due to expansion when hot.

Cain who has been instigating the engines as he is developing a sump guard for both found the very useful site below.

At Berrybrooks they put my car on diagnostics and it indicated the MAF sensor had issues this was replaced and improved matters, but had not completely cured it. One of the errors indicated a fuel mixture issue so having read the info in the link, Bradley decided that we should try the Simple Manifold Leak fix, as it appears the rubber washers compress with time and can allow inlet manifold leaks and cause the issues I was experiencing. So temporary washers were fitted today and after the car seems to run perfectly. I am going to try for a few days and if all OK we will order new rubber washers, and Bradley at Berrybrook will fit.

BMW V8 Vacumn Leaks

Hopefully this will be useful to others who experience that same. The site is a mine of useful info on the BMW v8's.
