As you've owned a Widow Maker, I believe you'll find the 996 Turbo to be rapid but placid. As for the 997 Turbo, I simply found it to be 10% better in all areas than the 996 Turbo - Porsches don't seem to change as much as slowly evolve and improve.
Woolfie, if you haven't done the deal on the Turbo, have you considered a 996 Turbo S or a 996 Turbo with the X50 option? The X50 cars aren't much more than the standard Turbo and the Turbo S is only slightly more; however, I think you'll find it will depreciate less due to the lower build numbers.
The Morgan is definitely the car that delivers more in the 'soul' department and the sense of occasion when behind the wheel; however, if space is at premium and you need a car that you can drive in all weathers, cover long distances and not have to really 'think' about how you are driving it, (as per our other thread on 'only one car') a 911 of any sort makes total sense.
Don't be a stranger once you have it!
