Thanks Chris99, seems like you had the same experience as me. Have looked this evening - both cables seem secure.
Only thing I can see is that the loop in cable seems to sit on the top of or very close to the transmission housing -will try to cable tie them away.
In the event that this fails - does it still work if I just disconnect the switch (maybe bridging the two cables together if a complete circuit is needed).

Disconnecting the switch won't work but bridging the cables will. Or as I did just use a cable tie and a nut or washer to keep the rubber button pressed in.

The switch disconects the power to the fuel pump in the event of a crash so although it is risk to run with the switch disabled it's a pretty small one. On the other hand the car cutting out at random moments is quite unnerving so if mine starts going again then it's a permanant cable tie solution for me!
