One of the greatest has gone. I saw his signature airshow performance in the Aero Commander at Oshkosh in 1979 and was lucky enough to see him again in 88. Like Eric Winkle Brown he was a talent beyond adjectives. Unlike Eric he was also a bit of a showman but in the best possible sense of the word and this meant that many of us actually got to see his skills in action. What a life! What a pilot! Somewhere there's film of him flying a barrel roll with a cup of tea on the control column and not a drop is spilt.
