Before I bought the Aero 8, recently sold, I owned a 1978 +8 (also yellow). With my wife we did many trips in the car, both within France and back to the UK. Always found the car excellent on long runs providing road surfaces not too bad. Also, and I think because it was a well tuned twin SU carbed car, I got excellent fuel consumption either in the high twenties or even sometimes very low thirties.
Would still buy another one if the correct example comes along, though being older I would now use earplugs!
