I was mistaken in my earlier post. The pipe that broke is a 1.5 mm pipe but is not the original pipe. I had an off road adventure in late 2014 that resulted in damage to the right side of the car and about six months at the dealers. I have just reviewed my photos and while the pipe did not appear damaged, the shop must have replaced it as part of the repairs. The car had about 7,200 miles on it at that time and just over 22,000 right now. This would be close to 15,000 miles on the pipe when it broke. The driver's side (left side) appears to be an original pipe of 1 mm thickness and it appears to still be intact.
I really wish I could claim the little beast as a dependent for tax purposes.... my children were less expensive to raise....
