Welll. chaps ... time for the update!
The simple cut and shut was a non starter once they looked at it, so, after some debate we removed all from the cats back, replaced the big boxes under the running boards with a new can on each side, then bend in and straight through in wide pipe to a big twin chrome on each side.
I am thrilled with the result, lovely burble on low power and a serious rip on throttle.
I will upload photo and try and find a way to let you hear noise.
