It seems that Jaguar has concluding there is money to be made re-building early E-types. There is a lengthy article in "Octane" on the project. There is no limit to the number to be re-built and the price is £230-£300k.
Jaguar has invested in new tooling for some parts for which the tooling has been lost and is also has produced some new tooling to replace worn tools for the bonnet.
All cars will be restored to "as built" but can be upgraded with any part fitted to later E-types, so auto and better brakes for example.
If I was able to spend that amount on a car i'd be tempted.. The early E Type Coupe is, to my eyes, one of the most wonderful shapes ever used to cover a car and for a classic they drive well. Even against some modern family cars they are competitive...
They had a stand at the Donnington classic last weekend , spoke to the chap , they have a very nice 'shed' where restoration will take place and had an e-type on the stand ready for restoration ! E -types are much in demand for restoring so they are jumping on the bandwagon , well done them !
