We have the EU block exemption that says something to the effect that "you can use a non-franchise garage to service your car but they must use parts that are a similar standard and quality to what the vehicle manufacturer uses".

Now if you use an upgraded part from another manufacturer that is not similar to let's say the standard exhaust therefore you would not be within the block exemption to use such a past.

Also in the US if you go to a tuning shop and buy the tuning shop's non manufacturer approved stage 1 kit that is not what was on the car originally, the US manufacturer can void your warranty.

On the other hand if you have a Ford and get a similar Fram Oil Filter from your local garage to what Ford sell then they cannot void your warranty either in the UK or US.
