ROFL, and that's why after 14 years with Volvo I bought a Ford Kuga 2 years ago ;-).

When Ford bought Volvo they were on a visit to product engineering in Gothenburg and were shown the soon to be released prototype XC60 and the drawings for its phase 1 facelift scheduled for 4 years further on. Much mumbling and we later learnt they had a very similar model mid size (to us) crossover in its final phase of development back in the States. Their car was delayed, in fact it never did appear, and they went with the XC60 platform with a few body tweaks and that became the Kuga in the UK market.

As you say significantly cheaper for essentially the same technology, different styling for sure but the running gear is all the same.
