Firstly, many thanks for the info and comments so far.
This is important to us as we are all electric and our heating is Air Source Heat Pump and it is this that i would really like to monitor but with the solar element it is not possible. I have emailed Elgato systems to see if they can help as the unit runs at up to 20Amps.
Bob, you are not correct about the export figures. Before i queried the issue i made sure that the export quantity was not affecting the meter reading. That is why i can't get my head around this. As i said the "usage now" on the in home display regularly shows a negative ie exporting amount but even if i turn everything off the meter count does not go backwards. So the smart meter shows the export but does not record it.
In the end as we spend about £1500 a year on electricity i think it is worth a little effort to keep it to a min. I wont though be persuaded to spend a fortune on stuff to monitor it as the smart (or dumb) meter should have helped me much more than it is. As has been said the only winners here are the elec co's who now don't have to visit to get their reading. Unless that is, the mobile signal fails........now that's another thread as we only get 1 bar if we are lucky.....
