Did you have stabilisers? ( Idid and made several unsucessful attempts to take 'em off but kept getting caught by the irate parents!

On the tricycle? No.
But thinking about H3's comment - it had the same configuration as a Robin - two wheels at the rear - wrong way around...
Caused me some pain that thing - dark blue it was, with scrape marks from whenever I turned it over
