I was told by someone who knows his stuff that if you tow using the towing eye on one side of the chassis, if you get a hard jerk it can pull the chassis out of line.
I think the lower front cross tube may be a better bet if clearance permits.
Have a look at some of the Morgans used in trials, most if not all have a webbing strap running from one side of the crosshead to the other for that very reason.
