Ian, each circuit has its own noise limits. The noise test should be done at 3/4 revs at 1/2 metre from the exhaust at 45 degrees but in practice this often doesn’t happen. Goodwood run different noise days- you will need to check which day BHM have booked. Goodwood tends to have lower limits than other race tracks but I have booked “noisy” days there. Remember there is usually a static and drive by noise limit. Circuits like Cadwell, Snetterton and Silverstone will be easier to pass with static of 102dB and drive by of 105dB. If you’re close to the limit getting the exhaust really hot reduces noise by a few dB. It is useful to get tested in advance, but the curcuit will not pass you unless their noise test is ok. Meters and testing differ! Safest policy is to take a bolt on exhaust muffler if you are near the limit.
I love Goodwood but if you come off it doesn’t take any prisoners, whereas modern circuits have more run off and gravel to save you and the car. Good luck!
