Wow! Never got to own or drive any of these (Escort Mk2 was as close as I got) but rode in Allegros and Minors when a er minor myself. Always liked the All'agro Estate and presumed the 1.7 was able to shift. History may have been kinder to these with a K series engine, hatchback and round steering wheel
