As they say it's spent a lot of its life in various European museums I wonder if this was Tom Neil's silver spitfire? That was a mk ix. After it was abandoned in Europe he acquired it stripped its paint to remove its former id (it was without any service log) then had trouble explaining it and getting rid of it once the bean counters came out of the wood work, finally being taken back to Europe by a Polish pilot.
