Not sure how many of us are affected but from October 2021 there is proposal to extend the London Ultra Low Emissions Zone out to the North South Circular Boundary.
As I read the regulations currently, all vehicles older than 40 years are exempt, but those between 1981 and 2005/6 are likely to be charged £12.50 per day for driving within the zone.
Diesel vehicles complying with Euro 5 or 6 are exempt (usually 2005/6 onwards) , as are petrol cars complying with Euro 4 standards.
I admit that a degree of self interest here as my +8 is 1999 , but according to the last MoT certificate does actually comply with Euro 4 standards but the car is not homologated to this and therefore it would be subject to the charge. The irony is that I live less than a mile from the boundary and all my motoring is done outside the boundary except this first and last mile.
Apparently there has been a lot of discussion on bike forums about this topic and there is a place in Stratford , E London who specialise in prepping older bikes to get them to Euro 4 and this is then notified to Transport for London (TfL) who then add the bike to their list of exempt vehicles. I was hoping to track down this place , to date without success, to investigate whether a similar service could be offered for cars. I am pretty sure there must be a huge demand for this so I suspect someone is set up (or is about to set up) an operation to cater for this group of cars/vans etc.
I appreciate that this is probably a minority interest topic for most , but has anyone else come across this and able to offer some advice.
Thanks in advance.
