One way to avoid tracing which fuse goes with what - try LED fuses (I don't know how they work but they light up when blown). Have a look at

I also had difficulty recently with our 2004 Roadster trying to track down which fuse protects which item so will replace ours over time. As an alternative to needle nose pliers to take out and replace the fuses under the dash get one of these little gadgets
