So there we are. Finished the whole thing today. Very happy, it all worked out. The steps were as follows:
1. Getting three CBS 8" blades.
2. Cutting the distal end as much as possible, aprox. 15 mm
3. Getting CBS adjustable wiper arms.
4. Fitting the blade to the arm, then the whole thing onto the car.
5. Turning the wiper motor on, extending the arms so that the distal end of the blade sweeps just a few mm short of the upper and lateral frame. This makes the proximal end of the blade move away from the lower edge of the frame.
6. Measured the max. permissible sweep angle. Turned out to be 110. To be sure I ordered 105, but 110 would have been ok also.
7. Got the motor out, changed the gear. Put a fair amount of grease in the mechanism.
8. Mounted the whole ting, again adjusting the length of the arms and locking them at the right length.
Then a few minor tweaks as bending the arms a little, then inserting some rubber (from a bicycle inner tube) in the arm/blade connection to get a tighter fit, also squeezing the metal on the distal (cut down) end of the wiper to prevent the rubber blade from moving.
It was quite a bit more extensive than I thought, and also a more costly. Would I have done it again? Yes, I think so. I live in one of the wettest cities in Europe, and although it is a sunday/sunshine car, squalls will inevitably catch us. And I got to know my car better, learnt how a wiper mechanism works and had the pleasure of actually mastering this little mechanic project
