In 1976 my father build his first motor home in a Fiat 238 van. Everything was made out of 8mm plywood. Because he used the van during the week for his building company, the conversion had to take as little time as possible. It took about ¾ of an hour to fit it all in. Nothing was screwed into the van. The cupboard fitted behind the cabin seats and the bench seats with build in storage were placed over the rear wheel arches. The floor held it all in place. The table slotted in between the seats and folded down to make a bed. In the cupboard there was a fridge, a 2 burner gas hob and a jerry can with 20 l of water. We went to the South of France in it, to Spain ... In 1985 we converted the lot to fit in his Renault Traffic 2.5D and in 2005 we sold it all to a guy with a Mercedes MB 100. Sadly I deleted the photo's from my hard disk last year. In 1994 my father bought a new motor home: a Ford Transit based Aswan Safariways. When my father died in 2006, we took over the motor home and we still use it today because it’s only 5.20m long and it’s very practical to use in the UK.
