I've done the same, ditched the stainless trumpet in favour of now a K&N, previously just a budget cone filter. Better breathing engine =better throttle response. I perceive increased torque, feels quicker\more grunt, and surprisingly better mpg. Getting the air from cooler area is next goal, as obviously its hot round the engine, but my pickup is in the same place roughly as the original paper element housing.
any info on the specific K&N, might give one a go but looking through their website I can't find a match for the plus 8
