I don’t believe we do “ rename our local dialect of English as the Scots language” we speak English with our own variations of dialect some of which are easier to understand than other and like many places in the rest of the UK have some words local to the area (loons & quines spring to mind in the north east). We do of course have another language called Gaelic.
