Nigel - you are certainly correct on the corrosion and cable length. I opted to move mine to the rear based on hot operating conditions (California) and having another battery available anyway. The original RedFlash (Odyssey) lasted 8 years up front - not bad. I think the main point is to mount the battery very securely, cushion and clamp it, and protect the positive cable with armored sheathing or old heater hose - and keep it well away from the prop shaft!!
