The solution that Treesurveyor has is something I also considered, but I do not have a bumper. If I let it rest on the back of the car it will damage the car.
And just using the luggage rack as support feels not solid enough.
Maybe a combination of fixing it to the spare wheel and letting it rest on the luggage rack mounting points would do the trick.
Just haven’t figured it out yet...
There are also racks available that just clamp to the spare wheel (for 4x4’s), but I would not try that.
