Sound like the inertia cutout reset switch.
If you have an accident or hit a massive pothole etc it will cut out the engine and fuel pump to prevent a fire.
You have to press the button to reset if it goes off when it shouldn't have done.
Can't be sure without photo but that's what it sounds like
