I had a discussion about the Sports Cats on 3.7 Roadsters with Morgan's Service Manager following the car's MoT test last year where the emissions were 'very marginal', shall we say. Initially he denied that Morgan fitted 'Sports' cats from new, and it wasn't until I sent him photos of the cats with 'Morgan Motor Company' and 'Roadster Sport' clearly stamped on them that he admitted they were indeed theirs and that they were fitted by the factory from new. On further enquiring he also told me the Sports cats were never type approved - which may explain their poor emission control, and possibly also their construction. He did offer me a 25% discount on replacement cats, but rather than accept his offer, I got rid of the car.
I suggested that the fitting of non type approved parts could be in breach of legislation, but since then he's remained very quiet...
It might be worth you having a word with Morgan to see if their discount offer still stands.
