MMC build tolerances can't be so diverse as to not make such a viable option.

You would think so, wouldn't you? There does seem to be a reasonable demand for them, after all. There must be some catch though, otherwise someone would have stepped up to make a universal option available. I suspect it would be pretty expensive though.
