Hi all, our 1973 Morgan plus 8 is equipped with the original Girling Type 16 front brake calipers. When we took over the car from an elderly gentleman, the front brakes were a complete mess of oil and grease and the braking power was inadequate. Now, after cleaning and after replacing all the brake pipes with cunifer-copper pipes and 3 new hoses, we are unable to fit the new TWR brake pads due to lack of space between the piston and the disc. It now turns out that for both calipers we are unable to push back the piston situated where the brake hose is attached. The opposite side (outer side) is ok on both calipers. The rubber boots seems to be intact. We applied WD-40, but so far no luck. As the car and hence probably also the calipers are now 49 years old, we are considering new or reconditioned calipers. Question is now if we should go for orginal Girling 16 reconditioned units or go for an upgrade? If an upgrade is chosen, it has to be bolt on with no modifications to the car as the MOT man is not in favour of modifications (living in Denmark). BCC (britishclassiccarparts.com) is manufacturing some 4 pot units made from aircraft quality aluminium which bolts right on with no modifications (they claim) and which would not look too "modified" to the MOT man. A kit of two 4-pot BCC calipers with EBC pads and fittings is GBP 576.00. Do any of you know this brand. I know and have used AP Racing parts for our Healey 3000, but could not find brake calipers for our 1973 Morgan. Not sure what 2 reconditioned Girling 16 costs? What would you do? Any advise and view much appreciated. Cheers / Finn
