Not sure about 2 speeders but as far as I am aware the 3 speeders have only ever used oil. I use Castrol D140 in mine. The gear box and bevel box share the same housing and hence oil. People may have used a “grease” to prevent leaks as the gear change mechanism is below the surface of the oil and in its original design had no oil seals and the indents on the gear change shafts would pump oil out on each gear change.
