I'm replacing the leaf springs on my 72 4/4 and installing the Rutherford kit at the same time. The new U-bolts they supply are a tight fit around the axel tube. I have to tap them down with a hammer to get them all the way on. That causes the U-bolts to spread and not line up with the bottom plate. I may be able to get in there with some tool to squeeze them a bit and get them to line up. But should I have to do that?
Also, when I eye ball it down from the top it seems the holes in the plate may be a little narrower than the width of the new leaves. Putting the U-bolts on an angle may make the difference, but agin...should I have to do that?
I sent an email to New Elms but haven't heard back yet. Anyone else do this conversion?
