Hi, I'm to replace one of the plugs (the top one) on the inlet carb manifold on our 1973 +8 RHD. The mild steel plug has rusted to an extend that cooling fluid seeps out. I've ordered the plug, but unsure how to best remove the old and rusted plug and, how to gentle insert the new one. I was thinking of freezing the new plug and gentle hammer it in place by using a plastic hammer. But how to get it 100% tight? Using a fluid gasket like Blue Hylomar? Any experience on the forum? Any advise and views are most welcome. Cheers /Finn
I would just punch an old narrow chisel through inner part of plug until you have enough purchase to prise it out. Lightly clean edges of hole and shoulder with Dremel or similar then after smearing this prepared surface with gasket sealant, tap in new plug with the help of suitable size socket ensuring it goes in square and eventually rests on shoulder.

Ideally the edges of new cup shaped plug should have a slight taper to ease fitting and ensure it doesn't pop out later. There are also stainless plugs available as an alternative to OE mild steel, which may seem like a long term solution but guessing, dependant on size, may be more difficult to fit.
