Does the adjustable shaft of the panhard rod have to sit perfectly parallel to the solid cross member? Or can the part attached to the leaf spring be an inch or two away? I assume parallel is ideal, but I can't imagine the forces are so great that 1 or 2 inches off would make a difference.
Good news is that once fitted the rod adjustment can be used to centralise the axle to chassis if needed, and within small limits. I think mine (5 link) was found to be 10mm out of true to chassis but correcting upset the symmetry of tyres to bodywork so the final correction was split. This modest error showed up when I later had the front toe laser checked. As suspected from the handling some toe out was found and adjusted to a smidgeon of toe in.
