Split tickets, are often cheaper if you cross over the rush hour peak fares time. So get the peak ticket to the first stop, then non peak from there. Its worth chasing the anomalies.
I once got a return to Perth from Doncaster for well under £30.
Indeed - I always buy on Trainline, which automatically splits tickets.
