Check under your seat runners Potts. You may find tapered wooden battens on that year Trad. If there are, and you remove them you'll gain aroind half an inch. But note that a protruding bolt and nut will press into the floor without a spacer.and will make seat adjustment stiff.
Also the original Mog wheel from the factory was awful, but your local dealer is likely to have a few kicking around and it would make a good basis for butchery/experimentation.
Thanks DaveW, as it happens I'm already working on this, and was just this evening applying the final coat of stain to my new lower batterns. Due to the leaf spring box protruding into the seating area, I can only get about 1/2" reduction in height, but I need all I can get!
I also plan to try an offset wheel, and I'm working on producing an adapter to try this out before committing to something like an expensive Moto-Lita 14" offset wheel. However, after clamping up the existing 14" wheel with an 1/2" offset, I'm not holding out hope that this will provide much benefit.
So my other plan is to try a 13" wheel (maybe even a 12"), and adjust the steering column before driving to the lowest position. I believe this should provide the best visbility of the dash (due to my height), and with a smaller wheel plus lower seat, I'm hoping my legs will still be able to move
and access should be better when getting in with the column in the upper most position.
So hopefully you can see why I'm trying to find a cheap alternative boss, so that I can try out various options.
