on the hood. I would relock he hood fully and then pull the handle whilst pushing down on the right side & trying to slide the hood side to side. You might need a helper for this.

2006 was a transition year for trads. 2006 -14 MMC parts book shows the fusebox like this

This box is on the bulkhead in the engine compartment above the drivers footwell.
