Gary, to prevent issue happening again suggest cleaning out ignition lock barrel with brake cleaner (which doubles as switch cleaner). With clean paper towel underneath you should see when all the muck is flushed out. Excess cleaner will evaporate quickly. Then lubricate with oil - I actually oil the key then push it in/out of lock a few times to get lube deep into barrel, before wiping key clean.
