Happy days. The team have done us proud this season; with such consistency, promotion was thoroughly deserved. It was pleasing that they were able to clinch it in such style at St Marys in front of the home crowd. The really encouraging thing is that the way the club is run club now seems really coherent, with the continued investment in the academy, and not spending money we haven't got. It's more in the style of Arsene Wenger's Arsenal than the billionaire's toybox approach. We have excellent owners who (unusually for football) have earned their fortune by manufacturing and paying their taxes; in Nicola Cortese we have a dynamic & ambitious chief executive and in Nigel Adkins we have an inspired and inspiring manager. I feel the club is well structured to meet the challenges of the Premiership.

Nigel Adkins has done a brilliant job. I remember when he was appointed one of my regulars was trying to wind me up, saying "Ha,ha, you've just hired Scunny's physio as your manager". I told him far better to hire a manager who has proved he can achieve great things on modest resources as he did at scunthorpe than a manager who has proved (usually several times) that he can fail at the highest level. As for the physio thing, I pointed out that Bob Paisley was a Physio before he went into management. 'Nuff said, that's good enough for me.
