Has anyone had the same issues, the car has just had a new starter fitted got back home push starter button dead not even a click tried half dozen times nothing.
Left for half an hour went back started first push of button.

Went out tonight drove for about 40 minutes, turned off the engine went into garage to pay fuel, came out nothing, tried about dozen times still nothing. Waited 20 mins started.
Any one any ideas ?

Sorry, I'm a numptie! Guess you have a series 1 Aero? Don't know them at all, is it a BMW V8? My Range Rover did the same thing at times...

Scottie,

I have not had this happen on my Series 1 but I looked at all the data on back problems in the Maintenance and Servicing bit of Talk Morgan. The post called issues and resolutions back in August 07 seems to cover your problem.
Car will not start with engine at certain temperature, fault was the immobiliser locked on.
The immobiliser unit slipped and touched the bottom of the fuse box causing heat soak. The car would start once engine and immobiliser had cooled.
Hope this helps

Hi

I have the same issue and it appears that it is the starter motor is at fault . a known issue for series one cars . The replacement starter is in fact a modified LHD BMW /Bosch starter .Apparently a big job - at least 8 hours to fit !!

Mine doesnt work one in ten attempts . Much worse when hot ....If left it will get worse until it packs up so best to get it sorted if this is the issue

Mine is on order and my really helpful dealer is sorting me out -

First thing to do with any starter issues is to check the fuses - this is generally where there is an issue to start with before any this else goes.

Beyond this then overheating is a definite potential cause - as previously mentioned if the immobiliser unit is not well shielded or has moved this can cause the issue.

Had the same on my old S1 some years ago. It was the fuse which had half fused..or similar. There was a factory mod to upgrade the fuse.. but I cannot remember from what to what now.. Have a look for it and put a bigger one in...
