Actually I find the stainless wires aren't hard to clean at all, on my 4/4 anyway, though I guess they are half the width of those on the roadster! All I do is spray them with Muc-off (which is sold both for mountain bikes and alloy wheels, same stuff, bigger bottle), wait a minute then hose off. After that I wash the car and at the end I use a big, soft wire wheel brush with the remains of the wash solution. I am not concours-OCD so have not bothered taking them off to clean the backs! Nor do I wax them, leather them, or put snake oil on them. Just muc-off, hose, and wash = shiny.

+1 for Muc off but every other year I take off either the front or back set to regrease the splines and also to clean the backs.
Mine are painted wires but I would love SS

I vote for stainless wires. I would never us a pressure cleaner on the paintwork but a spray with a wheel cleaner followed by a rinse with the pressure cleaner and they look like new. The pressure cleaner with just plain water will remove gunk and even tar spots and will never harm the stainless. After I dry the rims with a microfibre cloth so that there are no water marks.
The six year old alloys on the Alfa won't come clean without serious work. True I have not looked after them but I tried to clean them today and I have decided I am going to have to buy some special brushes to do the job.

Muc-off is safe on discs being designed for cleaning motorbikes. Just rinse it off with cold water.

Many thanks to forum members for their comment.At the end of the day I want to enjoy driving a Morgan,even though it may not have the latest in suspension design,with a bit of tweaking it can be made to give a good account of itself against modern cars.To that end I believe that it deserves alloy wheels to give it the best chance. The search for a Mk1 Roadster with alloy wheels continues!

Maybe because you can easily damage the tyres?
The note is for all finishes & for coated wheels ie. chrome & painted you can start to lift the finish if it is broken.

I can't imagine for the life of me why pressure washing stainless could be a problem. The only thing that I can think is that really high pressure could damage the seal holding air in the tyres.
Or perhaps they just want to sell their cleaning kits.
