2012 Plus 8 boot solution
This is the factory prototype, aluminium, secure, covered to match hood. Not as good as a wire wheel, but solves the absence of any form of boot on the +8.

That's terribly smart.
Is the case covered in fabric? Is it removable for lugging to a hotel?

Yes it can be locked onto the car and the lid opened, or locked.
Or the whole case can be unlocked and carried as a piece of (heavy) luggage.
