Talk Morgan Forums Community The Malvern Arms Flying Jacket or Not?

I've driven Mike Duncan's three wheeler in near freezing conditions wearing my Barbour International jacket with a fleece underneath and was warm enough and will keep the rain off. Also looks the part being motorcycle related. You do need some decent gloves that keep out the draft and a hat that stays on! Goggles or clear lenses biker glasses to keep things out of your eyes....surprising how much rain stings!

I've a Holdens sheepskin flying jacket, chosen as its less bulky than the traditional Irving ones....and a bit cheaper. It's very warm but whilst fine in my 4/4, just too bulky in the three wheeler and would soak up rain like a sponge!

Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to start off with my old ski jacket and take it from there. I've got too much natural padding (alas) to get cold quickly, but from experience oce the heats gone you freeze fast!

Any suggestions on eye wear? I think I need some sort of wrap around glasses, and I think my old motorbike helmet will be going too far. (unless I ever venture onto a motorway, in which case it may go on!). Again I'm after something practicle rather than trying to make a fashion statement.

As far as glasses go, I use a pair of Bolle, Super Nylsun glasses (available through Davida).
The great thing I find about them is that the lenses are interchangable, so you can easily switch between UV sunglasses and Yellow tint or clear without having to carry lots of glasses. Although they are not as good as goggles (especially in heavy rain or really cold air)they work fine for most occasions in the summer.

I have used them for replacement lenses and they are low priced and reliable.

One final thing....While you are on the Davida website, take a butchers at their classic 'pudding basin' style crash helmets.
They are not certified for road use, but thats not a requirement for use in the M3W (I think?). They are super light, so perfect for using as a driving helmet...add a leather face mask and some classic oval framed Aviator goggles by Jeantet, http://www.davida.co.uk/styles.php?id=11 and you've got a very practical set of head gear that looks super cool in the M3W.

....well you might be forgiven for thinking that, (especially if you've practiced the menacing stare for long enough..lol) but trust me, a leather face mask really does keep your face warm and stops the dirt, flies and rain from stinging your face.

As always...try before you buy...if you can.
