I suspect that there's a good stock of cut and seasoned ash to keep Morgan supplied for a while. The restriction on UK ash is surely related to new stock...ie saplings.

I can! I still have a piece of the partly rotten board from below the door of my old 4/4 with shrapnels in it. I ruined a sawblade when I tried to saw the healthy part of the board for an other purpose. So at least in the mid sixties they still used ash from the Ardennes.

BTW heat threatened wood is usually exempt from the bans in the EU. At least this applied to American an Chinese wood.

And where did the imported ash com from that brought the disease into the country??

I think it was not the milled wood but infected seedlings brought the disease.

But what really pi55es me off is to read that last year we imported large numbers of ash trees from the countries which we already knew had the problem. Like when we imported that pig disease from China.

What are the civil servants doing? As an island we could easily take the same line as the Aussies and have serious bio protection systems at the ports. But what do we do? Sod all.

Our real government problem is that government in the UK is ineffectual at best and incompetent at worst.

I'm afraid that border controls went to save costs, covered over by EC excuses. The current containerised process is almost impossible to control without being intelligence led.

No they didnt Dave. We have never had any decent border controls. How else do you lose a million illegal immigrants?

I'm referring to freight controls Howard, but the baggage benches also went for the same reasons, and there's no will by the politicians to flush out the illegals. Only when it's (vote losing) front page news like the olympic Heathrow fiasco.

This "intelligence" led four of the UK Border Agency's finest spending three quarters of an hour searching three of us at the tunnel at Calais last year. They swore it wasn't a random pull and said they suspected us of smuggling tobacco. They seemed vaguely disappointed that we weren't over the guidelines. I didn't like to point out to them that a motorcycle probably isn't the smuggler's vehicle of choice.
