Dont get this wrong guys - I think Morgans are wonderful individual cars. And I would like one. But how on earth can you rationally ( ie comparing performance, function, construction quality, equipment) justify the Plus 4 costing more than the new Boxter and the plus 8 costing more than a 911 carrera 4 cabriolet? Surely at present price levels, new Morgans are overpriced by some margin. So taking off the rose tinted glasses, dont you agree? I do tend to agree they are some what over priced but we are are not buying a 911 which is a more mass produced car .... and dare I say one that has little soul. oops

Having driven 3 generations of 911 (at Silverstone) I think the earlier ones definitely had something. But, as they evolved, the soul was driven out, leaving a highly competent (but somewhat bland) road burner.

I do tend to agree they are some what over priced but we are are not buying a 911 which is a more mass produced car .... and dare I say one that has little soul. oops I'm not sure I know what "soul" is in the context of a car, though I dont like Jap motorbikes because they are so fault free and bland. Maybe thats what soul is - a few quircks and faults.

Having driven 3 generations of 911 (at Silverstone) I think the earlier ones definitely had something. But, as they evolved, the soul was driven out, leaving a highly competent (but somewhat bland) road burner. Totally agree, I was fortuanate enough to do one of the days at silverstone where you drive a selection of different cars. The 911 (can't remember which version but it had a 100k price tag) was a 'dream' round the track, but I felt I wasn't actually needed... I could do no wrong in that car. I had the most fun round the track in a Lotus Exige, followed very closely by a renault megan sport. If I had any real skills as a driver then the Ferrari 360 may have been at the top of the list. But it was the search for cars with 'soul' that led me to the world of Morgan!

"try all the supercars you can, but do, do, leave the Caterham till last".

I did a Palmer Sport Track Day a few years ago.
Loved the JP Jaguar; loved the Clio; felt car sick after driving the Caterham, and my arms and neck were so tired by the afternoon, I could barely put a lap together
I decided after that day that competitive driving was not for me.
The strange thing is, that having spent lots of time on track on bikes and I never felt the same level of physical fatigue; though it does hurt if you fall off!

The only parts that get tired are your forearms and biceps, under braking. When you are cornering on a bike, the main forces are going through the vertical axis of your body because you and the bike lean at approximately the same angle. If you are want to try track riding, then IMHO use an accredited Race School and do NOT just go to a track day. The latter can be more dangerous than an actual race due to the varying levels of ability. Thanks Bud but I really dont have the b*lls for a bike track day. I ride like the grandpa that I am, no doubt because I'm a born again. Bit out of character since I race my boat and thrash the nuts off the Lotus, but there it is. Just one stage past having stabiliser wheels.

Having just visited the Factory I am in awe of the build process,skill and care which goes into hand making all Morgans - and thats the difference .....its craftsman built - not off a production line. so whilst comparisons will understandably be made u are comparing chalk and cheese. You pays your money and takes you r choice as they say!!!!
