Volume and price are always linked in the car world.
Handbuilt adds a premium of cost also.

If all any of us wanted was a well built reliable motor that could travel at the legal limit then the ford fiesta would be the only car on the road...

..I guess...Like most (non essential) things in life, they cost as much as people are prepared to pay for them.
Morgan aren't in the game of production numbers/volume pricing so, the rarer, the higher the price tag, I suppose.
If the product is good enough or desirable enough it will sell and if the number produced is low enough then the owners of these cars will be happy with their 'investment' at any price.

As long as Morgan keep making a great entry level car at a reasonably affordable price (like the 4/4), they will have a long term future.

I suppose I better start doing the lotto if I am ever going to experience a car like the new +8, but in the meantime I am very happy with my 4/4.

Are you 100% sure of that?

Comparing the two chassis I'm surprised its not longer to assemble the Aero chassis. Far more complex than the trad "Z" frame and a lot more assembly of the suspension components etc.

Ah I seem to have got it into my head that one of the reasons why the MMC are so keen to move onto the Aero chassis despite it's expense, is that with a greater use of bought in components it was quicker to put together.

Certainly those are some of the reasons we use to justify a non rational decision to ourselves. I do it all the time albeit not yet on a Morgan.



Well built? Reliable? I bought one for my daughter and it was a heap of junk with rust in the body seams after only 12 months. That said, I find myself increasingly drifting in that direction ( a VW maybe) because its so hard to have any sort of fun on our limit infested traffic jam filled road system. When doing not much more than half the maximum speed of the 911 can land you in jail, just what is the point in owning a decent car?

If you read up on the history of the Plus 8 it begins to make sense. It ended production in 2004 because the Rover V8 engine was no longer being produced, whilst Morgan already had a relationship with BMW by then the BMW V8 was too powerfull to bolt straight into the Plus 8 chassis.

I'm guessing that is why the Roadster was born, I suppose they could have continued with tradition and called it the Plus 6. I have no idea why they didn't?

The question begs as to why they waited 8 years to bring back the Plus 8 since they had already created it in the form of the mule for the S1 Aero, presumably in the late 90's ??

The new Plus 8 is a phoenix from the ashes!!
