I am trying to get equipped, should the need arise, to change a wheel (wires) on the road-side as quickly as possible. I'm about to buy a long-arm wire wheel nut spanner and today I heard for the first time about electric scissor jacks. Does anyone have experience of these? Are they man enough for the job and, assuming so, what about drain on the battery? It would be a shame to swap one breakdown incident (puncture) for another (flattened battery) immediately afterwards .

What happened to those AIr bags that you used to slide under the sill and inflate ?

The link above is quoted as 80 Watts and runs off the Cigarette Lighter socket so you would not need to worry about your battery discharging by a signifigant amount. In context each Fullbeam will be 60 Watts a piece.

They had a recall and stuck them all in the steering wheels didn't they

I have that site already bookmarked, but if I use the check compatibility function I get this - "This item does not fit Morgan Plus Four 2010 -- [1985-2012] Convertible 2.0 Plus4". I assume that means even when fully depressed the unit doesn't fit under the car - but I'm not sure I can believe that...

A few weeks ago I noticed my off side rear tyre was partially deflated. The motor was in the garage.
I could not get a small trolley jack under the back of the car, a 2011 plus 4, as there was not enough clearance. The old way to get the jack under was to inflate the tyre and drive it up on a couple of wooden planks.
Just check the minimum height of whatever jack you choose before purchasing.

For an emergency on road puncture I will rely on the issued scissor jack as that should be slim enough to get under the car. I hope!

I checked several sports cars and it did not suit any of them.

I get the same response for my Plus 8 and Mercedes E Class, the latter's probably down to the weight limit though. Makes their statement that it fits almost all cars a bit suspect!

I agree. Just entered the details of my Skoda 2.0TDI Estate, and the jack doesn't suit that either . I've sent an email asking for the height overall when fully depressed. If I get an answer I'll post it here (good grief; as I write this they have just replied! Compressed the height is 11.5cm and fully extended 34cm). Nice to have such a prompt response; I'll now pop out to the garage to measure both.

For those who are interested, this is the response I have had from the supplier whose website is quoted above - compressed height:11.5cms (and, incidentally, maximum height:34cms). My Plus 4 clearance at the front jacking point is 14cms. At the rear the jacking point is the junction of the cross/side members. Here the clearance is 10cms, but aft of the junction (on the side member only) the clearance is 13cms.

As for the Skoda, there is plenty of room. Their compatibility check function must lose them a lot of sales
