Already had mine, past with flying colours Yes - but now you've implied you're likely to take liberties, there's nothing to stop HMRC doing an in depth investigation. Such investigations are frequently the result of tip-offs from disgruntled members of the public who take exception to smart-arses thinking they can side-step the rules.

One thing in Business, dont think your cleverer than the people who do there particular job, I never do, and although i said a past with flying colours, that didnt imply there was nothing wrong, it meant that the VAT Man and I sorted out the differences and i paid my dues accordingly. We all make mistakes, the VAT Man is not there to rip you apart, he is there to help you collect. Work with them and it works better. YOURS Sincerely Smart Arse

No VAT on an export to outside the EU. Could be the reason... There is no VAT on new vehicles that are exported within the EU either. If it goes to a dealer the dealer in the member state is responsible for collecting the VAT as applicable in that state. On "new means of transport" if purchased in the UK and exported to another member state the purchaser is responsible for paying the VAT in that state. We purchased our car directly from the factory but had to pay the IVA (VAT) in Italy before we could get the plates. Cheating is not possible because the various states eventually cross reference invoices and VAT payments. For more information see here In the EC most goods are charged with VAT in the country in which they are purchased. However for a new vehicle, boat or aircraft, VAT will be due in the Member State of destination if: - it falls within the definition of 'New Means of Transport' (NMT), and
- it is sold to a customer who intends to take it to another Member State.
The definition of a Means of Transport within this notice and when it is ‘New’ is common to all EC Member States and is only for the purpose of determining when VAT is due. Other agencies for example, the DVLA may have different definitions.

VAT is calculate at a different % in each country within the EU, Therefore it is up to the individual supplier of Goods working within that Country to pass on the VAT value (taxable revenue) of the product to his Taxing office. Goods coming into the UK from the EU are exempt from VAT payment to the supplier but he pays the 20%VAT to HMRC once he has sold the Goods. Goods coming into the UK from outside the EU, the Supplier has to pay VAT 20% on arrival at Docks, before Goods are collected (that Hurts). because as a supplier you have paid your VAT before you have collected it. As an example i work closely with a Spanish Distributor of the same product we work with swopping Products when short. I send him the Goods at net, no VATHe sells the Products with i believe the VAT in Spain is 8% on top, he then pays his Government 8% Him sending me Goods NetI sell +20% then i give our HMRC 20% Although you suggest this is only the 3W, unless i am corrected the rules apply for everything.....where there might be a difference is if an individual is purchasing direct from the factory on UK plates, then taking it to another Country, he will of coarse be rewarded with a piece of paper that proves he has paid his dues.  Now I know why Arthur Daley on the old Minder progs had such an aversion to the 'VAT Man' Im' staying with the theory that by giving it a lower sticker price Morgan marketing thinks we've got more money than sense.

Clipper, here is what makes me chuckle, when people purchase say a product from Marks & Spencers, do they think all of there money is to the value of the product or are they wise enough to know a % of it is going to the VAT Man  Now who ever went into M&S and said can i have the VAT off so its cheaper.

If the vehicle is less than 6 months old VAT must be paid in the country to which it is imported. If it has been registered on UK plates VAT would have been paid in the UK and a refund may be applied for. Special temporary plates are available for vehicles which will be exported from the UK, VAT is not paid but must still be paid in the country the vehicle is taken to. If the vehicle is over 6 months old and less than 20 or 25 years old some countries, particularly the Scandinavian countries still charge high taxes before the vehicle can be registered. There have been some dodgy systems in use to try and avoid VAT payment on vehicles imported on temporary plates but the authorities are pretty much awake to this now and also watch out for any false invoicing.
