If I am not mistaken, part of the reason the car was Cat B was because it required a new chassis; therefore, cosmetic repairs are one thing but structural integrity etc are another ball game all together.

As for cars being rebuilt, 2 RHD have gone to scrap heaven and iirc 3 are re running around with Cat ratings. There are also a few, like the Hammond car, which have seen damage and been repaired. Good examples, with history, are becoming rarer and I think few people looking for an Aeromax will be satisfied with one of the substandard ones.

What ever the rights and wrongs with this car there will be a number of buyers for It at the right price. Its a chance to own a car that's normally out of their reach?

Deano, I can see your point but the waters get muddy a little down the line (which they already are imho). For instance, MMC wouldn't repair this car for a reason, and one of them was damaged chassis; therefore, it was rated Cat B. Not to labour the point but this means it was meant to be scrapped and sold for parts, not road registered.

Whilst the next owner will, hopefully, we aware of this; what will happen when it is sold on again and again. The first dealer who had it implied where was a loophole to get it back on the road and this is what is being used now. It isn't a challenge to believe that somewhere along the line, some honest prospective owner will spend their hard-earned on this 'car' and get bitten on the backside because the true state of it has been lost to the mists of time and dodgy dealers.

Just my 2-cents and ones that have been shaped by watching friends get shafted by buying cars with hidden histories.

It is, I believe, possible to rebuild Cat B on a new chassis (where the vehicle has a separate, distinct chassis). However, DVLA will issue a new chassis number. The rebuilt vehicle may require engineer's inspection (certainly will need a safety inspection) and a new reg number is issued.

However, don't take that as gospel as I can't find the right documentary proof

Hi Graham, the question remains, if MMC wouldn't sell a chassis for this car, who did (if anyone)? My suggestion would be that it was repaired, not replaced.

This was the Max i missed by 2 weeks before purchasing the Blue one, looks like it has returned to the Sales Pot,
its a bit myxomatosis inside one thinks.

If anyone is seriously looking right now, I'd suggest the ex-Paul O'Grady car is the one to buy. Low miles, great condition, known provenance (not famous owner but simply that the historical condition of the car is known) and despite the interior being marmite, it could always be changed in time.

From the reactions and comments i have received owning my Max, i personnaly wouldn't change a thing about it and yes i agree Simon, Pauls ex Max would be where my money would be going.
