Does anyone know what make of ECU is in the 1.8 Duratec 4/4 please? Mine's a 2007 but I think they used the engine for 3/4 years.

I was having the Subaru serviced yesterday, so watched one being tuned on a rolling road and thought, 'How Brilliant is that?' He took a standard 220bhp up to 280bhp.

I'm curious to see how easy it would be to tweek the Duratec but they would need to know what the ECU actually is.

Dave, you seem to have tapped into a black hole of knowledge with this question. I agree with you, it would be really interesting to know a bit more about the ECUs on our Morgans. The whole "Morgan ECU piggy backed onto Ford ECU" thing seems to puzzle a lot of folks on here, me included.

Any of you racing or hill climbers have anything to share here.... ?

MonteZooma, I've tried various ways of finding things out and I always end up back at the factory, or as you say staring into a black hole. I suspect they own the software and unless someone tells me other wise, I'll have to assume I talk to the factory and the ECU can't be 'fiddled with' by 'outsiders'.
I must be fair to the folks at Malvern, they have got mine running pretty nicely. I was just hoping to see if I can tap into more 'potential' without spending a fortune. The Subaru experience was interesting and it just struck me that the Duratec must be willing to offer an extra 20bhp without too much trouble.

Is the Subaru turbocharged? I think that offers the tuners more opportunity to adjust things so as to gain more power.

The one I saw was a non turbo Gambalunga, although mine is but I'm happy with it as it is.
Whilst I recognise the need to build in 'tolerances' it really got me wondering if the 4/4 is now a 1.6 and apparently it is pretty quick does that mean the ECU has been, or indeed can be tuned to a higher tolerance?

Dave, Regarding identify your ECU I don’t know if this will help or not but here is a pic of mine (2006 4/4). You may be able to I/D it from the various numbers attached. I did a little googling myself and found a couple of similar ones on a well known auction site with the same numbers and they were from 2005 Mondeo vehicles.

I sent mine back to the factory a couple of months ago for a retune, not for performance but to fix the dreaded duratec pink.

Roger thanks, that's very helpful. I shall see what I can unearth from this.
Cheers, Dave

At least you Duratec engined 4/4s have it a bit easier. Heaven knows what goes on with the 1.6 Sigma engined cars with the piggybacked Morgan ECU and the Ford one! And then on mine I even have an Omex ECU piggybacked onto that lot! shocked2

Jay, thank you for demonstrating 'the grass being greener' thing. I honestly believed the 1.6 Sigmas were simpler and easier to fiddle with!! Blimey, what a set up. I hope it goes well.
I must say I've learned quite a bit from recent discussions and enjoyed the opportunity to 'look over the fence' or is it 'popping my head above the parapet'?
Cheers, Dave

Gambalunga, Following further 'research', I am starting to realise you are probably correct about the Subaru being turbo charged. It can't be possible to get that much extra out of a standard engine. It was rather noisy in the tuning booth!!
Cheers, Dave
